Rebuilding after flood damage using Stainless Steel

The ever changing global climate is seeing unpredictable weather in many parts of the world. Even here in the UK we are experiencing weather that we have rarely seen historically. Storm Desmond, that struck in 2015 is one such example that caused extensive flooding and damage in Northern England and Scotland.

One victim of Storm Desmond was a 300 year old bridge in Cumbria spanning the River Eamont, which was completely destroyed during the bad weather.

In selecting a design for the new bridge, stainless steel was chosen as the most appropriate material to resist the onslaught of possible future storms.

The 40m bridge will provide a single road lane and two pedestrian footpaths and will combine the stainless steel open-spandrel arches with concrete for additional strength and resilience.

Knight Architects who designed the new bridge stated, "We've worked closely with the local community in developing the design for the new bridge and the final design looks outstanding."

Stainless steel has been used for over a century for its ability to resist the effect of water so a Stainless Steel Kitchen from DSM, is the ideal solution – even if you lived in a flood area!
