The Alien Stainless Steel Monolith from Utah, Dartmoor, Glastonbury Tor… Nottingham?

The Alien Stainless Steel Monolith from Utah, Dartmoor, Glastonbury Tor… Nottingham?

Read on...

Yes, there are Stainless Steel Monoliths popping up everywhere, Utah… Dartmoor… a NOT BANKSY one in Glastonbury… if I were you I’d be checking your back garden for one right now, you never know there might be one tucked away behind the shed, or maybe in the rose bushes? (Please note the ‘DSM’ monolith in Market Square, Nottingham, was created in Photoshop!)

The original Stainless Steel Monolith was found on November 18, in Red Rock Desert in Utah, US. This iconic find has since sparked a rush of copycat Monoliths all over the globe. All of them have been constructed in a similar way, using Stainless Steel, and have been variously attributed to aliens and even Banksy.

The latest in this sci-fi phenomenon of metal monoliths has appeared in Dartmoor. The reflective stainless steel column is 2.5 metre tall and about half a mile from the nearest road on the north of the Moor. It is the third to appear in England - after the Isle of Wight and Glastonbury Tor.

Steve Garnsworthy, from the local area, was walking his dog when he first came across this monumental installation on the north side of Dartmoor.

"When I first saw it I thought 'What the heck is that?' I didn't know there were other monoliths appearing and I wondered if it had been put there for a reason. It was like the War of the Worlds was coming to fruition, where the creatures come out from the crust of the earth. It looks as though it's growing out of the ground. It appears to be very solid and stable - I didn't touch it but my dog went up to it and was rubbing against it and it didn't move at all.”

We don’t make Monoliths at DSM (not yet anyway!) but our stainless steel products can all be custom made precisely to your the design, size and specification… from Kitchen Worktops to Stainless Steel Kitchens.
